CARBON CREDIT PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
 
PT Gikoko Kogyo Indonesia is an engineering and manufacturing company which provides their clients with services in the sectors of Clean Air System, Biomass Resource Management and Carbon Credit Development. With innovative Carbon Credit Scheme for landfill management of City of Pontianak Gikoko in cooperation with World Bank's Carbon Finance Unit starts their engagement in planning, developing and implementation of Clean Development Mechanism Projects.

Industrialized countries (ANNEX I countries) concerned for climate change, energy security and sustainable development have driven them to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. By doing so, they committed to reduce their greenhouse gasses (GHG) emission. Clean Development Mechanism is one of the mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol, which provides a means for these countries or their companies to contribute to GHG reduction measures in developing countries in return for Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs). These CERs can be used by ANNEX I countries to help them to meet their emissions targets.

Gikoko develops Landfill Gas Flares CDM Projects and works closely with municipal governments in City of Pontianak, City of Palembang, City of Semarang and 4 Districts in Bali (Karangasem, Buleleng, Bangli and Klungkung). The environmental and social problems can be controlled with this cooperation in municipal waste management project.

LFG flaring at Final Disposal Site resulting in the destruction of methane gas, which generated from the decay of an organic waste. Despite the potential in causing fire and explosion at Final Disposal Site, methane gasses are also having a big potential to cause global warming. LFG Flaring at Final Disposal Site benefiting the surrounding society through its Community Development Project's and also gives a positive influence on social and environment aspect.

Gikoko also develops Carbon Credits from Palm Oil Mills Effluent and other organic waste water treatment system in Food Processing Pulp and Paper Industries. Gikoko manufactures the equipment and the works with the Carbon Credit Finance Unit of the World Bank to develop the projects from its inception.

On June 14th 2007, Gikoko signed the first Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA) for Methane Abatement Project in TPA Batulayang Pontianak with the World Bank Carbon Finance Unit, with Netherland as the ultimate buyer.
The signing ceremony was conducted in the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of Netherland, the Mayor of Pontianak and officials from the World Bank. This project is already registered on May 31st, 2008.

The World Bank and Gikoko has an agreement where by the Bank would buy up to 2 million tonnes of Certified Emission Credit (CER) from Projects developed by Gikoko.

Today Gikoko is ready to develop more CDM projects in municipal waste management by cooperating with local governments that will surely lead to a positive influence both socially and environmentally.
